Choosing our Artist and Contacting Them - 16/9/16
Olly Murs
For our music lip sync video, myself, Jonny, Josh and Mohsin who belong in my group all came to one decision and have decided to use Olly Murs and one of his songs 'Did You Miss Me' for our video. We did discuss that using a signed artist rather than an unsigned artist could have some problems in terms of contacting and keeping that contact with the artist to discuss how we will go about making the video, but in the end we thought using a signed artist would suit us more with what we want to do. Going back to our preliminary task, we found out that using a generic pop artist and song worked out really well with creating a fun, entertaining and effective music video. It enabled us to play with different conventions particularly the mise-en-scene and use them to our advantage in order to make an orginal unique video to match a popular song. This was exactly the same ideas we wanted to carry on into our main task and try and emulate what we did well. Using a male pop artist would help us match and represent Olly in a correct manner with adding our own twist to him. The song 'Did You Miss Me' does not have it's own music video to it's name so therefore this puts us in a perfect position and enables us to create a unique video for a really catchy track, but do it in our own way and not copy Olly's other music videos in order to make ours.
Lastly, we knew we had to contact an Olly Murs representative, so we did so and emailed his record label 'Epic Records' as a group in order to gain permission to use his track.
